Tidbits

Happy Labor Day to everyone! We're hoping to head out to the land of the crazy madness called the lake. Nerdfish (DH), Cowboy, Nerfish's friend (bossman) and his son are going fishing early. Then myself and bossman's wife - who happens to have the same name as I do - will meet up with their little girl and Itchy for a picnic and swimming later.

I've got my thoughts and prayers on friends and family in the gulf states. Ya'll stay safe and update us when you can.

And for Carabee - I found a post on my old Xanga blog that had the song on there.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Pondering thought for those that get sucked into the world of the Wiggles from time to time....
Does anybody else sing one of their songs like this??....
"Can you stand on one foot and shake your hands?"
I tend to inwardly sing it (and I caught myself this morning) as "Can you stand on one foot and shake your ASS?"
How wrong is THAT? I guess it's a good thing I never actually put a voice to it - because this morning it came so natural to me. LOL!

FRENT STOP!

For those wondering - I have no CONFIRMATION - but I too figured it had to say FREQUENT STOPs. I found it so funny.

Of course, this also comes from the city that had the highway number written out - and upon entry onto the highway for a good year and a half (right when we moved here, it might have been longer) the highway signs said "welcome to four FOURTY". Yeah we're a city that prides itself on our awesome grammar and spelling abilities.

Thanks for everyone that took a guess!

Friday Foto Fun Fest!

We try to have a girls breakfast at least once a month. As I was driving to our breakfast "at the Crack" (some of you will get that), I saw this trailer at a light and got tickled. I immediately started fumbling around for my camera so I could take a pic. I figured I would get a nice and focused picture at the next light but he surprised me and turned so I had to hurry and get a snapshot.

The funny part about it is - try to figure out what the trailer says...I've broken it up into bits and pieces for you.

CLOSEST

CLOSER

TADA! The full view that I got.

So what do YOU think it says??

I'll just say this - I feel much smarter today than I did yesterday. LOL

Candid Carrie has a GREAT photo fest every Friday so we can share fun pictures. Go take a look and comment on other blogs - it's always a blast!

How white are YOUR whites??

Believe it or not...THANKFULLY it's rained here for the past two days. This area has needed it desperately. Although - rain and sports schedules don't mix too well. Yesterday when I was pulling out Cowboy's practice uniform for tonight, the only one that I had clean was WHITE britches and WHITE shirt. Yeah, I knew this was a disaster waiting to happen too.

So we get the call, as expected, Itchy's soccer practice is cancelled. YAY!! At least he can stay home with Dad and not worry about mud puddles and splashing. However the football freaks of TN feel rain makes for a spiritual experience on the football field so unless there is lightning, there is NO way we are going to cancel practice or a game.

Cowboy jumped out of the truck looking all cute....."oooh watch out for that big puddle behind you - cars are surfing over there"

SO I grabbed my umbrella and my blanket to put on the bleachers - endured the downpour that opened practice up and the CONSTANT drizzle that kept up through most of the practice. We joked that if he came off the field CLEAN and PRESTINE, we knew he didn't work hard. I'd say he worked pretty hard.

Of course, if there was smell-a-vision - you could SMELL the mud and wet grass. When I made him strip on the front porch (oh yes I did! he wasnt' coming into my house!) he had a tan line of mud on his legs. The pictures don't do it justice at all. We were supposed to go out to eat with Friend-girl afterwards but I couldn't possibly take him into a nice restaurant like THAT. I feel like I'm pushing it when I take him in there all sweaty with his football britches on...but coming from Mud-Bowl 2008? Nah.

*knock knock* Housekeeping...

I admit to being a slacker....not just your ordinary slacker either - A slacker of colossal magnitude! I've received several awards and noticed in the rules that you need to pass them on. Since I recently 'joined' I thought I'd get to know some of you ladies before I handed out the awards myself. Regardless, I want to thank you ladies for making me feel special AND welcomed. I need to hurry up and take care of them though before I need a seperate blogspace to accomodate them. A few of you may have already gotten these so sorry if this is a duplicate - just means that you're doubly UBER!

Veggie Mom tagged me in a meme about quirky things about myself. It's actually taken me several days to figure out what is really quirky. I mean - my definition of quirky is probably COMPLETELY different than what is quirky to you. I don't know if my tolerance has grown so much having a quirky needs child but I couldn't come up with anything at first. So I asked the expert, Geekchef (DH) and he was MORE than happy (perhaps too much??) to help me figure out what was quirky about myself.

1. I don't like breathing hot air. Meaning I don't like someone right in my face, I don't like breathing the air that rebounds off of pillows back into my face. Saunas suffocate me.

2. The sound of a fingernail file drives me BONKERS! It gives me chills just to see one and to actually HEAR it....LOOK OUT! Getting a manicure or pedicure takes every ounce of strength I have not to flee screamking like a banshee with all the filing done in there. Haunted houses may have bladeless saws and such to scare people...all they REALLY have to wield is a nail file to send me running.

3. Geekchef calls it Princess in the Pea syndrome, but I don't like wrinkles or any little crumblets in my bed. I must also have the blanket on top pulled taut without wrinkles as well. No I don't iron my sheets...I just make sure I put them on the bed right after they are done in the dryer. Once the kids are gone and I'm not occupied with that - you never know though ;>

4. It bothers me when someone puts the napkins in the holder the wrong way. I like them to have the 'spine' facing out so that I only grab one at a time.

5. I don't like visors in a vehicle to stay down - I feel like they obstruct my view from floating cars or something and I feel out of sorts while they are down.

6. I don't like to hear silverware hit people's teeth.

That's IT!! I'm supposed to tag a few people and I can't recall who has done this and who hasn't. So if you haven't....CONSIDER YOURSELF TAGGED!! C'mon admit you're quirky!

Friday Foto Fiesta Fun Fair!

I'm jumping on the Candid Carrie train today for Friday Foto Fiesta!

I thought since today is Itchy's 6th birthday I'd make this foto Friday all about him. Since Cowboy is such a big part of his life, you'll have to suffer through some pics of him too. I know it's supposed to be ONE photo - but I can't do that today. I've tried to put some pictures here that would display his milestones as well as his personality because he truly is a firecracker. Please help me wish Itchy a Happy Birthday!!

The first time Cowboy saw Itchy.

The proud big brother.

It took us about a year to get him to stop wearing this hat.

Yes you are six my man! Happy Birthday - we are so proud of the person you are shaping up to be.

What's WRONG with stick figures???

I've got a cute love story for ya'll which leads to the root of this post. Ok - so Cowboy has had a lasting friendship with a girl he went to school with. You better call her a FRIEND-GIRL because the world comes toppling down and you offend the poor guy if you DARE call her a GIRLFRIEND. Anyway, Friend-girl is an old soul. She's smart beyond her years and sees the bigger picture better than any fourth grader I know. Her mom is cool too - we both see they have a special relationship and we joke that they are an old married couple. It's really hard to describe.

They've known each other since kindergarten when she would draw him pictures and took him under her wing...they weren't even in the same class. His speech has progressed so much since then - I sometimes tease they started out to be such good friends because she could talk his ear off and he wouldn't respond much back. More like the "yes, dear" mentality. In first grade they were in the same class (this is before I started homeschooling) and she always gave him pictures. She's very talented and one day gave him a picture of him and her riding a dragon - he was sitting behind her with his hand on her hip. We had a problem in first grade when the two of them were making out. ROFL ok - so it wasn't really like that but we joked. Cowboy is very loving and would hug and kiss her when he saw her. After all, that's what my husband and I do right? We of course had to put an end to the kissing - they still hug when they say hi/bye. I mentioned that if he felt compelled he could kiss her on her hand like a princess. He explained to me that Cinderella and the other 'girlie' movies aren't just for girls because every princess has to have a prince. Yeah I know - we're molding him to be a hopeless romantic huh? Either that or gay...you can never tell.

Third grade saw Cowboy playing football and Friend-girl cheerleading for his team. We had a weekly "date night" where we would meet her and her mom for dinner and the kids sat on their side and we sat on ours. We hardly ever heard from them, they just kept to themselves, drawing and whispering. On the practice field one night she walked over to the fence, he saw her and came running up and they smiled and talked for a few. Someone elses GRANDMOTHER came over and said "Did you see THAT? Those two have a THANG going on don't they? I could tell they were on cloud 9 when they saw each other". I guess it is obvious.

She's still cheering - although she's moved up to another age group (so her friends' mom could be her coach and help with transport if needed). We still do our Tuesday "date night" though and she comes and watches him play at practice when she's done with her practice. Those primadonna spoiled cheerleaders get done a whole half our before the players do! We do other things with them as well - but it's great he has such a good friend in her.

Last night was date night and Friend-girl drew the cutest picture of her and Cowboy in their Panther gear. Although what WASN'T so cute was Cowboy whispering in her ear...."psssshpsrhi...my mom...pssphsp" then I saw him draw a stick figure. Yes that was my child boasting about the earthshattering talent that his mother possesses to draw stick figures. ROFL! What a stinker! There's no need to reveal my lack of skill to the world. SO what if I can barely write my name without it looking like heiroglyphics. Either way, my skill has been unleashed upon the world...I drew a stick figure by Friend-girls to showcase the art. I'm sorry to say though, I didn't get a picture of it - we're still working out copyright details for my portfolio. *snicker* Regardless, I see NOTHING wrong with my stick figures. I can draw a butterfly too though....*GASP* I know ladies, it's truly amazing to realize you have such an arteeest in your midst. How on earth ya'll ever functioned without such talent in the group - I'll never know...you NEED my stick figures ;>.

The picture Friend-girl drew last night at dinner.

At Cowboy's homecoming game in 2006

The first game she cheered at (they didn't have their cheer uniforms yet) 2007.

After a game in 2007 - If she wasn't already spoken for - Itchy would snag her I'm sure.

They got to run across the field before a Vandy game in 2007. Look at the hold he has on her - don't let her go COWBOY!

We saw her when we dropped Itchy off on the first day of school 2008.

Why do *I* taste so good?!?!

As ya'll can imagine, I'm outside quite a bit with football and soccer practice, horseback riding, soccer and football GAMES, helping with the polo horses and then just your basic outings.

What I don't understand is how ALL of the bugs in TN can sniff me out like a bloodhound, hunt me down and choose my hunk of flesh to feast upon???

I was at a friends house last night and we sat outside for a while. I sprayed myself with bug spray (I've tried every kind in the world) and I STILL got gnawed on like a dogs chew toy! If I played connect the dots I'd have zodiac signs all over my body for crying out loud!

It's not JUST the bug bites either - when I get one - it welts up HUGE and I have the red spot remnants for MONTHS. I'm sure it has something to do with my LOVELY aura or whatever smell I emit (that's a sexy thought) from my skin - but SHEESH - is there a mosquito diet...because MODERATION FOLKS MODERATION! I wish there was a mosquito union I could address and mention the discrepancy in the amount of bites I get versus the amount of bites someone else gets.

The oddest things keep my mind churning at night and last night it was...I'm not quite sure I like the thought of a mosquito flying around after slurping my DNA into it's being. It does bring to question if a mosquito consumes enough blood to provide enough information to pinpoint human's DNA. I should say white blood cells since they are the ones that provide the genetic material. Yeah - I sometimes don't like to live in my own head with those kind of thoughts either. LOL I guess it's a good thing vampires DON'T walk this earth (well at least they don't walk in TN) because I'd be in trouble. Regardless, I think I've found my next new research topic ;>

Footbawl and R-E-S-P-E-C-T

I realize we're freaks here in TN because of our love for football. Yeah, that's not the only reason we're freaks - we talk kinda funny too but that's a story for another day.

I can understand crying when you get hurt and believe me, these boys are taking some good hits - the bruises alone speak volumes. I feel like I should make Cowboy wear long sleeves. Not to mention, when he first started playing - his seasonal allergies flared and we had a HUGE issue. I took him to the doc because he kept having bloody noses. I was worried that it was iron related (coupled with the bruises, seemed appropriate) or something else and when he looked he said he just has some inflammed vessels in his nose. That's great and all - but my child STILL to this day sneezes out of his nose. It's a learned skill and I have tried FOREVER to get him do the sneezing blow out of his mouth. Instead, once he starts a bloody nose, it makes him sneeze...>SEVERAL TIMES<. You can just imagine my panic when I'd have to worry about the crime scenes he was creating. Heaven help us if CSI ever comes to this house with that little UV light they shine to detect blood...we're screwed. I can just hear it now "Sorry Ma'am, you can't get blood splatter like that from a sneeze" "Of COURSE you can!" "Then why is it all over the house and in a trail from the bathroom to the living room to the bedroom?" "Well I can't talk him into sneezing in one location" "You should get a lawyer" "Cowboy - sneeze now!!!!!!!" Yeah I don't see that working either. I had him carry a towel with us wherever we went out because for the first few days, it was a MESS! I'm sure I looked like some kind of freak in the stores when I'd see him get that squinted eye, I'm about to sneeze and blow out all over this place look. I'd immediately start digging for the towel. He's doing much better now - thankfully no more bloody noses.

Last year we had an issue with a boy calling him STUPID (bad word in this family) every single day and he'd ask me when he'd stop. I told him his best response would be to shrug and say "SO"....and then when given the chance to tackle him, earn his respect by showing him that he can take him down. They were ALWAYS pitted against each other. Cowboy flattened him one day and the kid got up - pushed him, Cowboy pushed him back and both boys got in trouble by the coach. AFTER practice, the kid came up to ME and said "I just wanted to let you know Cowboy is a great football player, I'm learning a lot from him this year". *blink blink* *blink blink* WOW! I picked up my chin from the ground and thanked him. Cowboy and I had a great discussion at dinner about earning respect, the right ways to do it, etc. The kid never talked to him like that again and as a matter of fact he moved and was at the football game the other day watching Cowboy since his game was later in the day.

So my brother-in-law was in town to go fishing with Nerdtoad (dh) and we are giving them our old boat so he was going to drive it back home. We were at football practice and Cowboy comes over in TEARS - oh yes TEARS - because one of the kids called him a coward. WHAT?!?! HOW DARE HE! WHICH ONE IS HE? 'scuse me...Mama Bear jumped out. So we remind Cowboy, he needs to earn his respect by hitting hard and taking him down on a play....proving him wrong. His response.... "I CAN'T he's on DEFENSE TOO!" ROFL I had really hoped this could have been another one of those perfectly laid out character lessons I could work off of....was I ever wrong. Maybe during drills tonight, with a nudge from me to the coach, this kiddo and Cowboy can earn the respect of each other and end footbawl 2.0.

I AM still alive....

kind of out of pocket these next few days while my brother-in-law is in town.

Miss you ladies!

I found great humor in this...

That was fun - thanks Shannon. What do YOU need???

I guess I know what wood in a fireplace feels like!

IT'S HOT here in TN!! WHOOOOOOO DOGGIES!

Itchy had soccer evaluations Saturday morning at 9:00 and we strolled out the door and IMMEDIATELY started melting. It was hot, humid and MISERABLE. Did I say MISERABLE...pardon me, I should have said FRIGGIN MISERABLE. He did awesome though! We were able to get on the coaches team we were with last year. Not the official announcement though, the wife sent me a super secret ultra covert operation email that said "Itchy is on the team!" At least they already know he's a smack talker. I know a few of you ladies have heard me talk about my smack talker extraordinaire - but he works it and is VERY animated about it. I told the team last season before we even started that it's something we're working on - but it's not done in a spiteful way. One of the moms even confirmed that she thought he was being cute and not being ugly. Regardless, I'd rather he not talk smack. I'll admit the hulk muscles are pretty cute after he makes a goal, I just don't think he needs to yap with the other team about the score after being so animated. Because of his food allergies, he's on the smaller side and I just know some day a kid is going to come and whallop him because of his BIG SIZE mouth. This is of him last season....hey - and he went Krogering too! LOL

So not only that - Cowboy had a football game Saturday. It was a BOWL game (in TN it's basically a PRESEASON game) and they WON!! What's that you say? Did you win a trophy or medal? NO!!! We won the OPPORTUNITY to go sweat BUCKETS again the NEXT day to perhaps get a trophy. Football on days like that is CRAZY...but a football game at 3:15?!?!!? COME ON PEOPLE! There are LIGHTS at the facility - why not play the scorching games at NIGHT?
I made sure Cowboy had an overabundance of fluids all day...but STILL - sheesh, with the heat index at 115...just about NO amount of fluids can help dent that heat! I get a lot of comments about our decision to let Cowboy play football. "I could never let my baby play football" "Isn't that a bit rough for him?" "It's too hot to play football". Well, the heat I can't alter - that's probably my main complaint aside from a few coaching issues that we didn't have last year. However, the benefits FAR outweigh the negatives, not to mention he really enjoys it. Yeah, he's got bruises up and down his arms and legs and it looks like we beat him to a pulp...I have to watch his hydration a lot during these first two months but he GAINS a tremendous amount. We spent years going through physical therapy to work on his low muscle tone and get him more coordinated with his gross motor planning. This will be his 3rd year in football and I'm hoping the 3rd year that he'll make HUGE leaps in his physical progression. The first year (7 years old) he was able to walk up and down steps alternating feet instead of doing the feet together step, feet together step method - for the first time WITHOUT being prompted. That basically means he gained enough confidence in his strength and coordination that his mind and body LET him do it! The 2nd year (8 years old) he was able to CONFIDENTLY ****RUN**** down the stairs. Yeah I know, not something most mom's jump up and down about and encourage - but you should have seen him.... he was FLYING down those stairs. I made him do it again just to make sure I wasn't imagining things. I was proud of him, but that doesn't matter - HE was proud of himself once he realized what he had done. Once your body and mind has mastered a task - it opens it up so all energy is then placed on the next task. His speech always progresses, he tied his shoes for the first time (How many YEARS of occupational therapy has tried to get him to do THAT?) last season and it always helps his core strength for horseback riding. Yeah, it's hard to watch my baby get knocked around sometimes...but it's GREAT to see a child we NEVER thought would be a football player knock a few other kids around and overcome some hurdles. Last year he made quite a few key plays in the games so that made it even more exciting. I can't wait to see what he's going to do this year!

I have also been ALL consumed with trying to find Geekfloat(DH) a new boat. About 3 weeks ago he found THE one, he couldn't live without it - had been looking for that model, price range and the color wasn't bad either (same as my truck)...so we called to make sure they had it. SOLD OOPS! We started looking and looking and looking - we just weren't finding what he wanted. I noticed the 'sold' boat was still on the dealerships website so I called and they said the sale had fallen through. YAY!! We went out Tuesday (an hour drive!) to take a good look at it - ended up putting a deposit down - negotiated some extras and we'd go pick it up the next day. We ARE the owners of a new (2005) Stratos boat! Geekfloat is happy and I imagine I get to win all arguments for a good deal of time which is great for me! Believe me, I'll use it every chance I get! "Come on, all you have to do is vacuum for me - I mean, I did all the legwork for the boat - it's the least you can do!" I kinda like the ring to that.

Anyway - sorry I haven't been around. I hope to respond to every one's blog and get back into the swing of things! Missed you ladies!

CHOOO CHOO Friday Foto Fun Train!

I thought I'd join in the Candid Carrie Friday Foto Fun Fiesta Train!

This is a picture of Cowboy and I. We were at a horse jumping event where he had ridden as the honor guard the previous year, but he was going to tack the horses and 'pass the flag on' so to speak this year. It was SOOOOO hot and of course he wanted to go see all of the horses in all of the stalls so we started walking around. As I feel the sweat starting to collect in various places I think "DANG! I better hurry and get a picture of us before we melt" and so I found a fence post (by a gate) and did the 'ole timer method.

The memories that are stacked with this photo will always be precious. The timer of course is only 10 seconds so that meant I had to set the camera, RUN around the one link of fence, through the gate, run AROUND the tree and jump behind him so my head was even with his, AND look lovely and calm. What was funny, he kept moving so we'd get shots of half of me or the other side...half of him. We took this picture 10-15 times, I kid you not, while laughing the whole time. I finally had to put a piece of grass on his shoes and told him if he knocked it off I'd tackle him and tickle him to pieces. While the first few pictures have my hair nice and brushed - this one has my hair all wompajawed and starting to show the buckets of sweat that eventually melted us later in the day.

and just because I love it too...this is the picture of him as the honor guard the year before.
